The key to this live sync lies in the ability of Blackmagic’s latest cameras, such as Cinema Camera 6K, PYXIS, URSA Cine, and URSA Broadcast G2, to record full-resolution HD proxies in H.264 format. These files are synchronized in real-time with Blackmagic Cloud and then with all DaVinci Resolve workstations connected to the same project. This process is automatic, requiring only that the client log into Blackmagic Cloud and select a project before starting to record.
Furthermore, if multiple cameras are recording simultaneously, the multi-sync feature allows editors to see and choose the best angle from various views. This resembles live streaming within editing software, where media playback is continuous and updated in real-time, allowing editors to view and work with clip segments as they are recorded.
This functionality is especially valuable for news workflows, where historical events can be edited — and broadcast, by the way, almost instantaneously. The URSA Broadcast G2 camera, for example, can synchronize with the editing system as recording begins, allowing editors to prepare news segments in real time.
Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync will be available in public beta in mid-June as a free download for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 cameras. In addition, it is expected to be included in future updates for other Blackmagic cameras and in the Blackmagic Camera iPhone app. This update will be free to Blackmagic Cloud users at no additional cost, reaffirming Blackmagic Design’s commitment to innovation and accessibility in video production.
